200 @ $ 15 = $ 3,000

Bobs said that the stock was $3 split adjusted, so he would have actually bought at $6. Also, we have to adjust for the time and risk of the purchase. One would be more inclined to buy 200 shares at $15 today than they would buying 500 at $6 during a time when the investment world was hard on the stock and the company. Only with the benefit of hindsight would you buy without fearing the consequences.
