The IBM brand name is huge, and any buyer would be foolish to lose it.

Exactly. The flip side to that is IBM won't want to dilute,
diminish its brand or lose the slightest bit of control over
it. The IBM brand name is worth about 20 or 30 times
what the PC division will sell for if you believe the way
economists estimate such things.

The buyer would presumably get IBM's PC division's
design and sales group, customer and supplier data,
the right to all of IBM's existing PC designs on the
market or in development, and perhaps even rights to
use IBM's PC specific IP. They WILL not get the right
to use the IBM name in ANY fashion. That's obvious to
anyone who knows even the basics of business today.
